A novel Scheme for the fast inter mode decision of H.264/AVC

چکیده

The variable block sizes in H264/AVC improve coding efficiency at the price of worsening encoding complexity. To lighten the encoder’s load, a novel fast interframe mode decision Scheme is proposed according to the statistical proportion of each encoding mode. Firstly, check whether the current macro-block is at the skip mode in terms of its characteristics. If so, some encoding modes will be avoided. Secondly, the encoding modes can be further cut down by making use of the correlation between the mode decision and the quantization parameter. Experiments show the proposed scheme can decrease the encoding time up to 31.1-76.1% with less PSNR degradation.
